Antibiotic testing paper

The antibiotic assay paper from the AllFilter range by AllChimie is a specialised microbiology paper, designed for antibiotic susceptibility testing by diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer antibiogram). It allows dosing and testing the efficacy of antimicrobial agents on bacterial cultures.

Manufactured from pure cellulose with controlled absorption capacity, this paper is cut into calibrated discs (typically 6 mm in diameter) that retain a precise and reproducible volume of antibiotic solution. After placement on inoculated agar, the antibiotic diffuses and creates a measurable inhibition zone whose diameter reflects the susceptibility of the tested strain.

Applications cover clinical antibiograms in medical microbiology, antibiotic quality control tests in the pharmaceutical industry, research on bacterial resistance, and antimicrobial activity tests in the cosmetic and food industries. The paper is designed for uniform impregnation and reproducible release of the active ingredient.

The protocol requires a sterile preparation chain: preparation of standard solutions in a volumetric flask, sterilisation through syringe filter or 0.22 µm filter membrane, impregnation of discs, then placement on the medium. Autoclavable glass beakers and Erlenmeyer flasks sealed with silicone stoppers complete the microbiological workstation.
