Activated carbon filter

The activated carbon filters offered by AllChimie are essential replacement consumables for ventilated safety cabinets with molecular filtration used in laboratories for chemical storage. These cabinets, designed according to EN 14470-1 (flammable products) and EN 14470-2 (gas cylinders) standards, retain organic vapours and protect operators from toxic emissions in the working environment.

The operating principle relies on physico-chemical adsorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on the large specific surface of activated carbon. Depending on the products stored, different filter types exist: type A filters for organic solvents (alcohols, ketones, hydrocarbons), type AX filters for low-boiling-point solvents, type B/E/K filters for acid gases, inorganic vapours or ammonia, and combined filters for multi-purpose cabinets.

The periodic replacement of the filter is a regulatory requirement to maintain filtration efficiency and ensure compliance with EN 14470-1 and EN 14470-2 standards as well as workplace safety rules. The replacement frequency depends on the volume of VOCs adsorbed, the frequency of cabinet use and the type of products stored. Saturated filters lose their adsorption capacity and expose users to chemical emissions.

These filters are part of the overall laboratory safety setup, alongside individual PPE such as the laboratory coat, storage solutions in plastic containers or glass bottles for reagents, and suitable storage solutions. AllChimie supports its industrial and academic clients in maintaining the compliance of their ventilated cabinets through regular supply of certified consumables.
